Begin Running

Beginners courses are the life blood of Handy Cross Runners.

We offer a 10 week course which allows anybody with a basic level of fitness to run 5km. 

The next course starts on Wednesday 8th January 2025.

Each week we carry out a warm up session and then various agility exercises all designed to promote good running form.  Each week is designed to increase the distance that is run, so in week one you are running for very short lengths of time and then you walk for recovery in between.  As the weeks progress you are running more and walking less.   In week 1 we run for 1 minute and then walk for 1 1/2 mins and we do that ten times.  So the session takes 25 minutes.  All sessions up to week 5, take no more than 25 minutes.  
 
You will need to find two other ‘homework’ sessions in the week when you can repeat the session which is taught on each Wednesday night, this will enable you to make rapid progress as the running sections increase in length.
