WHAT WE GET UP TO

On Tuesdays you have a choice of what you can do. You can either take part in an organised interval training session which varies each week or go on a group runs of around 6 miles.

Wednesdays are predominately, but not exclusively, aimed at beginners and improvers. All members are welcome to come and run and we encourage our more established members to come along to look after the improvers and take them out on some interesting runs.

On Thursdays we enjoy group runs of between 6 – 11 miles. There are several groups, each catering for differing abilities of runners. And please don’t let the distance intimidate you, no runner gets left behind!!
We have several 10 week Beginners Courses taking place throughout the year and on completion of these runners move on to the improvers group where the mileage is gradually increased to a point where people can comfortably fit in with normal club runs.

On Friday’s we meet at the Athletics track in Marlow at 7PM and offer a set session or if your prefer can do your own run using the outside lanes.

On Sundays, depending on the racing calendar, runs tend to be arranged via our e-mail network. We generally meet at venues away from our club house so that we can enjoy running in different surroundings. These runs tend to be of a very sociable nature and we constantly keep regrouping so that no one gets left behind. Distances of ten miles plus are the norm and more if people are training for a marathon.

If you would like to run with us on a Sunday, please e-mail Phil Burridge or Craig Atkins first for details of where we will be meeting.

SOCIABLE SIDE

We organise several social functions throughout the year including our Annual Dinner and Christmas Disco.

About once a month during the summer on a Thursday evening a group of our members will plan and organise a run with a pub as the venue. These normally feature distances of around 6 and 9 miles as well as a walk of about 4 miles so that non runners can come along and too. Afterwards, most of us will visit the pub for a drink and some food.

CROSS COUNTRY

Who doesn’t like a bit of mud? Between October and March Handy Cross are proud to be part of two Cross Country Leagues.

CHILTERN LEAGUE

For the Chiltern League we compete on a Saturday Morning http://www.chilternccl.co.uk/ there are five events at varying venues each year and as the men run separately to the women it is an excellent chance to support/pity our fellow club members.

THAMES VALLEY LEAGUE

The Thames Valley League which is run on Sundays and encompasses a number of our local clubs putting on a run and competing against each other http://www.tvxc.org.uk/ with all the benefits of tea and cake post-race. We are the proud hosts of one of these races in Bradenham Woods.

– There’s no better way to get to know your fellow club members than huddled in the club tent!!

5K SUMMER SERIES

Each year during the Great British Summer, May – July, there is the opportunity to run with part of Handy Cross at a number of informal 5Ks with a number of local clubs with local clubs hosting the events and putting on a fantastic spread after the race. Again, we host one of the events and use the Rye in Wycombe as our venue.
