There follows a message from Trevor Free, our Pub Runs Coordinator, with details of another wonderful opportunity to explore the scenic countryside that surrounds us and afterwards sample the excellent food and drink that the Fleur serves up.

Hi All

The next of the pub runs is on Thursday 31st July at 7:00 pm from The Fleur de Lis, The Common, Oxford Rd, Stokenchurch HP14 3TZ and is being organised by myself (pub), Nick (runs) and Martin (walk).

Runs and walk
As per usual, there will two runs of about 7 and 9 miles and a walk of around 4.5 miles

For the benefit of those who have not taken part before, the runs are 90% cross country and to make sure that we are back in time to eat, we have to get around the distances in an hour and forty five minutes at the most.

Food
We have agreed a short menu with the pub as follows, all priced at £8.50;

Ham, 2 eggs and chips
Chicken curry, basmati rice and side salad
Fleur burger with bacon, cheese, lettuce, mayo, relish and chips
Smoked haddock and spring onion fish cakes with side salad and chips

If anybody would like a vegetarian option, I will see what the pub have to offer.

If you intend to eat afterwards, please let me know together with your choice from the menu. trevorfree@madasafish.com This is only for me to gauge likely numbers and to give the pub a good indication of how much food to order and does not commit you in any way.

Parking
There should be plenty of car parking on the roads around the pub and common, but please take instructions when you arrive.

Bingo
If you fancy a game of bingo after the run, this starts at 9.00pm in the restaurant.

Friday Track Sessions start 18/7/14

Hi All,

Good news! We are one step closer to being able to offer some sort of running activity for members every day of the week, thus giving people a wider choice of when to run and the types of session on offer. Paul Dineen has been in contact with the people at Longridge who are managing the new athletics track at Little Marlow and has kindly booked a slot for us on Fridays 7:00 – 8:30 pm. so that those that want to can get in some quality training before relaxing and socialising later in the evening. I am told that they have not finalised the cost to us yet but they have said that they will charge £1 per person for the time being, which is excellent value. The more of us that use it will help keep the cost low and help guarantee that we keep our slot booked. The first session is this Friday and I am quite happy to come over and supervise the session including a warm up before and stretching session afterwards. I suggest that our first session should be 4 x 1 mile efforts with 400m recoveries to build on the fitness you have developed over the 5k Series in preparation for the 10k and Half Marathon races which take place in the late summer and autumn. As always, the sessions will be suitable for all abilities and I hope that those of you who have just started as beginners will come along too, as the track is a superb environment for new runners where you can use the outer lanes to repeat the sessions that we do on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s, get to know other runners and benefit from their experience. The more of us that use it the better and friendlier the atmosphere will be. If it is okay with the rest of you, I might even ask Marlow Striders if they’d like to take part as well.

I look forward to seeing a good crowd of you there this Friday and don’t forget to bring your £1 with you.

EXPIRED – Our 5k 8/7/14

I hope that those of you that are taking part in the Summer 5k Series are enjoying them and appreciate the hard work put in by the host club when organising their event.

It is our turn to host the 5k on Tuesday and our chance to show other clubs what a great club we are when it comes to organising events. Please note that it is customary for each member of Handy Cross Runners to bring along a donation of food to help feed the runners from other clubs, so anything that you can bring along (sandwiches, cakes etc.) will be welcomed. With well over 300 hungry people expected to take part this will require a huge amount of food, so please do your best to bring something.

We shall be meeting from 4:15pm on The Rye near the Tennis Courts (HP11 1QX) and our first task will be to put up the marquee so that Elaine Brewster and her team of helpers can get on with making the additional sandwiches and setting out the food etc. If you can get there at this time your help will be appreciated. Elaine will require some help with the food preparation, so if you are able to do this please let her know.

We will using a similar course to the one we used last year, which is mainly on paths and so does not require as much pegging out as our old one. We will require about a dozen people to act as marshals to make sure that the runners find their way around the route as well as someone to be the “Official Last Runner”. Please let me know if you are able to help. Once we have enough people to do this and the timekeeping etc., then anyone else who wishes to can take part in the race.

Please try and come along to support your club even though you might not normally attend on a Tuesday evening.
