It seems unbelievable that it’s ten years since our late Chairman Alex Johnson passed away at the young age of 57. We are holding our annual Alex Johnson Memorial Trophy Handicap race in his memory this Sunday (23rd February) when the runners will be setting off at 9:00am. (and any walkers at 8:30am.). The course from the club, reportedly one of Alex’s favourites, via Horns Lane, Lane End, Frieth crossroads, Bovingdon Green to Marlow is 8:25 miles in distance. Handicaps will be applied so the most improved runner should win and not necessarily the fastest. If you would like to take part please let me know by email before Friday, stating the finishing times and details of your best 3 races (not cross country) you have run in the last twelve months. I will be checking on these so no fibbing please. I reserve the right to use any information at my disposal in setting what I consider to be as fair handicap times as possible and no negotiations, however financially or otherwise attractive, will be entered into. Last year’s winner, Helen Moseley will be taking part and as she has been training really hard for the London Marathon she will no doubt be hoping to do well again this year and give everyone a good run for their money.
If you haven’t taken part in three races in the last year you can still come along and do the run. However you will not be eligible to compete for the trophy.
I look forward to seeing lots of you taking part.
On Sunday March 9th Datchet Dashers are holding their annual 20 mile marathon training run. This is a supported run that we put on for our members who are training for a spring marathon, but members of other local clubs are also very welcome to come along, and we usually have 60 – 70 runners of all standards. The run starts at 9am from our club house in Home Park in Windsor, and there is no charge – runners simply have to be at our club house, signed in and ready to go at 9am. There are changing and toilet facilities at the club house (no showers), plus plenty of free car parking.
The route is basically from Windsor to Virginia Water via Datchet & Old Windsor, a lap around Virginia Water, and then back to Windsor. The entire route is on pavements, quiet country lanes or roads & footpaths in Windsor Great Park, and it will be marshalled at all key turning points with several bikes out on course as well. There are also 4 drink stations around the route. It is not a difficult route, but it is not flat – there are significant climbs at around 4.5 & 8 miles, and descents at around 10 & 15 miles, with some minor undulations between these points. The first 4.5 and last 4.5 miles are flat however.
Details of how to find our club house are here: http://datchetdashers.com/contacts/
This Saturday is the final round in the Chiltern Cross Country league. Details here:
You may be aware that this was supposed to be run at Wing but it was cancelled at short notice due to inconsiderate parking in the past. So we are back at Campbell Park for a second time. Please try to car share and park responsibly as other venues may be at risk in the future. Apparently the course has been modified to that used in December. As is usual at the final round, the men’s race is first at 13.30 and the Ladies at 14.35. There will be a awards presentation afterwards in the pavilion.
As always everyone is welcome so please come along and get involved. We will be meeting at the Judo Club at 11:00 am. to car share.
The Wycombe Rye parkrun has been cancelled due to flooding.
