EXPIRED – Thames Valley XC League, TVT 2/2/14

Hi All,

This is the final Sunday XC of the season so let’s see a good showing of Handy Cross Runners there. We will be meeting at the club at 09:00 to car share.

Regards,

Mike

Thames Valley Triathletes are pleased to host the final race of the TVXC league this Sunday (2nd February), usual 11:00am start.

The venue is Heath Warren Wood with parking a short stroll away at St Neots School (RG27 0PN). The school is on St Neots Road, west of Eversley just off the A327.

The course is approximately 8.5km over mixed terrain (expect some mud) and is not considered suitable for running spikes. The race start and finish are just across Bramshill Road from the school (marshals and signs will direct you).

Refreshments will be available in the school after the race. Unfortunately there are no changing or toilet facilities available for our use.

Discs will be handed out at the finish.

We look forward to welcoming you all on 2nd February.

Marshals required for the Wycombe Half Marathon and 10k 20/7/14

Hi All,

It’s that time of year once again when we are asking for your help to make sure that the races we organise will be successful events in terms of runner safety and enjoyment. I trust that you will appreciate that lots of marshals are required to direct runners around the courses and keep them safe from traffic. The long standing members amongst you are well aware that your help is required on race days and we hope that you will, as usual, volunteer your services eagerly. Those of you who have more recently joined our ranks may not know that as members we are only able to enter the Marlow 5 or Wycombe Half Marathon and 10k races if we can supply a substitute person, not connected with the club, to marshal on our behalf. That person must be named on the race entry form otherwise your entry will be rejected. As a club we hate having to lay down rules like this but this one was proposed at an AGM several years ago, after the police withdrew their presence from races thus putting more pressure on us to ensure the safety of competitors, and was democratically voted in by the vast majority of members.

The Marlow 5 will take place on Sunday 11th May and the Wycombe Half Marathon/10k races on Sunday 20th July. This year Sally White has taken over the job of organising marshals from David Riddington, so please make her job a little easier by volunteering your services now, by emailing her at sally-w@btconnect.com If you have never marshalled before please let Sally know so that she can allocate you a simply managed position or one along with a more experienced person.

Thank you in anticipation of your help.

Kind regards,

Mike

EXPIRED – Charity Track Run at TVAC 9/2/14

Hi All,

If you aren’t running the Wokingham Half then you might like to go along and support this worthy cause and rub shoulders with the elite of the athletics world.

Mike

Dear Chris,

I’d be very grateful if you could make your members aware of an event Rodger Hughes is organising at the TVAC track in Eton on Sunday 9th February.

It’s a charity track run in aid of the Neonatal Baby Unit at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.

Linford Christe is starting the event and there are several other Olympic stars there including Marlon Devonish and Nicola Sanders.

I’ve attached a pdf info sheet for the run but in a nutshell Rodger is planning on running 40 miles round the track and invites all-comers to run anything from a single lap up to the full distance. Runners can be solo or run as part of a team. It starts at 10am but runners can start at any time they wish.

It’s £5 to take part; parking is free and the track will be manning a tuck shop for refreshments.

Hope some of your members are able to make it!

Best regards,

Andrew Cooney (of Datchet Dashers)

EXPIRED – Coach to and from the London Marathon 13/4/14

We have once again hired a coach to take runners and spectators to and from the London Marathon. If you would like a seat, the cost is just £10 per person and I will be accepting payments as from tomorrow evening at the club. We will be opening this up to people from other clubs and the general public at large so please don’t delay and pay up quickly to ensure that your seat is reserved. Please make your cheque payable to handy Cross Runners and give it to me so that I can add your name to my list.

EXPIRED – Head Torch Off-Road Run this Thursday 23/1/14

Invitation to all brave and hardy souls. The madcap chapter of Handy Cross Runners, the Nocturnal Off-road Mud-pluggers are organising their second outing this Thursday the 23rd.

Due to the ground conditions we will possibly do the first route in reverse, a course of around 6 miles.

So dust down that head torch Father Christmas brought you, clean up those off road shoes and come and enjoy the fun and games!

See you all on Thursday.

Mike Clare and Beverley Nothman

EXPIRED – Thames Valley XC League BFR 19/1/14

We will be meeting at the Judo Centre at 9:00 am. to car share.

BFR’s 2013/2014 will take place on January 19, 2014. Once again our race will be held at Lightwater Country Park, The Avenue, Lightwater, Camberley, Surrey, GU18 5RG with the usual 11.00am start.

The venue is easily found being just off the A322 to the south of Junction 3 of the M3. After leaving the M3 proceed south on the A322, almost immediately turn right into Guildford Road and then third right into The Avenue. The venue is at the far end of The Avenue.

We apologise for the limited parking which we have to share with other users of the park, but the good news is it‘s free. Please encourage car sharing by your team members as far as possible. Also experience shows that parking can take longer than you might think given the toing and froing of others park users cars.

Please collect race packs from me; also return them to me after the race once you have completed them.

This year’s race will be over more or less the same course as last year. It’s not considered suitable for spikes.

Toilets are available at the ranger station. Please do not use the toilets in the gym as this is a privately operated club not a public facility.

Refreshments will be available at the finish.

The country park is a site of significant scientific interest. Please help us by ensuring that all litter is properly disposed of and we leave the site in an even better state than it was when we arrived.

Yours in sport

Big Al on behalf of Bracknell Forest Runners.

EXPIRED – Chiltern League XC, Slough 11/1/14

A message from Frank Fulcher our Cross Country Team Captain.

Happy New Year to fellow Handy Cross mud lovers!

On Saturday afternoon Upton Court Park in Slough is the venue for the fourth fixture in this season’s Chiltern Cross Country league. The course is fairly flat with some slight inclines and is very spectator friendly. This is an ideal course for any newcomers to try out cross-country. It would nice to see a few more ladies taking part as we had zero at the last fixture.

Details here:
http://www.chilternccl.co.uk/slough.htm

As usual the ladies race starts at 13.15 and is usually 6-7km and the men’s at 14.00 and is 8-9 km. Please allow plenty of time to park up and walk to the park.

I’ll be there from 12.30 onwards to register everyone and hand out numbers to anyone new. Look out for the Handy Cross banner.

Email frank.fulcher@gmail.com if you have any questions

See you all there

Frank

Route

From the M4: Leave the motorway at J12 and take the A4 west towards Newbury. After about 3-4 miles turn left at roundabout onto the A340 towards Aldermaston/Tadley/Basingstoke. Go straight on through Aldermaston village, up the hill passing AWE on the left, cross over 2 roundabouts at AWE gates and at the next roundabout take the last exit onto the B3051 towards Newbury and Kingsclere. Pass the Lakeside Garden Centre and Larkwhistle Farm on the right and take the next left towards Baughurst. From the M3: Leave the motorway at J6 and then follow the A339 ring road and then the A340 towards Aldermaston and Tadley (following the Hospital A & E signs from the motorway also works). On entering Tadley go straight on at roundabout (2nd exit, swimming pool on LHS) and continue up the hill passing Fox & Hounds PH on left and Sainsbury’s/Library on right. This is slightly different to previous years as we have lost the ditches and open fields towards the end of the course. The course is now almost all footpaths/woodland/bridleways and remains at about 5.2 miles; it is not considered suitable for spikes. Please remember the 10-15 minute walk/jog to the start and allow time to get there.

Pre/Post Race

Changing, shower and toilet facilities are available at Race HQ. We will be using the disk system for scoring – would club reps please ensure that we get them all back.
