It is the second of the Thames Valley Cross Country League matches, hosted by Sandhurst Joggers, this Sunday at Hawley Lake, which is off the A327 just before reaching the M3 junction 4a. The nearest postcode is GU17 9UD. I will be at the club at 8:45am. should anyone like a lift or to travel down in convoy. A parking fee of £1 per car will be charged. It will be fantastic if we could carry on the good start we made at Datchet and exceed the 21 runners we had there. This is a great course of just over 5 miles through woodland and heath with some hills, as well as sand and a bit of mud for plenty of variety, so please come along and enjoy it as it looks as though the weather is going to be fine. Trail shoes are advised and the course is also suitable for spikes. There are no toilets or changing facilities (although you can park very close to the start). Please be discreet when watering the trees and undergrowth and also note: we are NOT allowed to penetrate the ground with tent pegs, flags etc. This has come directly from the MoD, so Sandhurst would appreciate us all following this guideline.
The first of the Sunday league events. Starts at 11:02 am (after two minutes silence in respect of Rememberance Sunday).
Venue: The Brocas, Eton. Nearest car park is in Meadow Lane, Eton SL4 6BS but this is quite expensive and fills up quickly, so get over there a bit earlier and park at the Park and Ride near Datchet Dashers clubhouse SL4 6HX (free on Sundays) and walk the short distance over the bridge to the race start.
The Thames Valley Cross Country League is based around 8 races held from October to February each year.
Events are held on Sundays with an 11:00 AM start time – each course is usually a mixture of woodland trails and parkland and is normally about 5 miles in length. Refreshments are served after each race supplied by the host club in the same way as the Summer 5k Series.
Originally sponsored by Today’s Runner magazine, the original idea was that racing in the league should encourage friendly competition and ensure that everyone is able to participate in and enjoy the events. Although no longer sponsored by the magazine, the original spirit of the league is still stands.
Men and women teams compete in the same race with the first 6 men and first 3 women from each club scoring points. All abilities take part and even non-scorers can affect the result by getting ahead of scorers from other clubs, as the points are calculated based on overall race position of the scoring runner. To promote good club spirit, club colours must be worn by any runner to score, and there must be a given number of veterans in the team. See http://www.tvxc.org.uk/ for full details.
Please remember that our event is on 30th November and lots of help will be needed to remind the other clubs what a great club we are when it comes to putting on events, even though we may be a little lacking sometimes in getting a large enough number of members to make complete teams to take part in them.
The second of this season’s Saturday events.
Venue: The College Equestrian Centre, Church Road, Keysoe, Bedford MK44 2JP Ladies race at 1:15 pm Men’s at 2:00 pm. Full details at http://www.chilternccl.co.uk Meeting at the Judo Centre at 11:15am to car share. Please come along and enjoy the expeience of being part of our Handy Cross Runners team. All members will be welcomed whatever their experience or level of ability. Everyone plays a part in the scoring system so the bigger our team the better our chances of doing well.
