I have been in the club now for over 20 years, which has been a good club supporting me in my racing. I’m not able to run as much as I used to and I am now giving me time back to the club, in the role of Treasurer for both the Handy Cross Runners and the Wycombe half/Marlow 5 committee.
So I would hope that all the club members could help support me at the quiz night I am organising at the Judo Centre on Friday the 20th June – 7.30 pm. This is to raise money for my new challenge a charity bike ride – John O’Groats to Lands End – I am under taking in August. My chosen charity is the Wooden Spoon, who are dedicated to helping improve the lives of mentally, physically or disadvantaged children in the UK. Take a look at their web site for more info http://www.woodenspoon.com/home.php
Tickets will be £10 per person and you can get tickets from from either myself, Lucy or Mike. The teams are a maximum of 8 but don’t worry if you haven’t got a team we can place you with others in the same position. The seating will be limited to 80 so first come first serve. Included in your £10 ticket will be a meal of curry, chilli or a veggie option all with rice.
There will also be a raffle tickets sold on the day.
Thanks for your support
Handy Cross Club Treasurer
The third of the pub runs is from The Chequers at Watlington, OX49 5RA on Thursday, 19th June, starting at 7.00pm, and is being organised by Mike Hollis.
Running and walking
The usual format, there will be two runs of about 7 and 9 miles and a walk of about 4.5miles.
The longer run will be lead by Mike Hollis and swept by Peter Astles (probably) and the shorter run will be lead by a combination of John Peerless and Des Mannion and swept by Nick Martin. The walk will be lead by Martin Dean.
Maps of the routes will be available on the night for those who would prefer to go out on their own.
For those who have not taken part before and new members, the runs are 90% cross country and you should be able to run the distances in about an hour and thirty minutes, but maximum an hour and forty five minutes.
For those who wish to eat afterwards, Mike Hollis has arranged for the pub to do a barbeque which will be £8.00 per person and will include burgers, sausages, chicken and various salads.
Can you please let me Mike know if you intend to eat afterwards. email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org ). This is only for him to gauge likely numbers and to give the pub an indication of how much food to order and prepare and does not commit you in any way.
There is a small car park at the side of the pub, there is a reasonable amount of adjacent road parking and we may be able to use the car park of the school next door, but please take instructions when you arrive.
The pub will have a large screen television showing the England v Uruguay game.
This event has been postponed due to the car parking areas being waterlogged and has been rescheduled for 1st July. This gives you a few more weeks to prepare for what some consider to be the fastest 5k of the series, so to help you get faster we will be doing a Paarlauf session out on the field (8-12 x 400m) on Tuesday.
