Well it’s Christmas Eve and I’ve just realised that I haven’t thanked you on behalf of the committee for helping to make our Cross Country event that we held a couple of weeks ago such a great success. The feedback that we had from the competing clubs was that they enjoyed it immensely even though it is regarded as the toughest in the series. They particularly remarked about the friendliness of you marshals and the enthusiastic encouragement you gave to all the runners. Some were even amazed about how many there were of you as they have always judged us to be a small club on the basis of the numbers we have had taking part in the past at their events. I’m pleased to say that this is changing and the numbers we have had had at the cross country events so far this season have been very good. We had a full team at the Reading event on Sunday and I am looking forward to seeing more of you taking part in the remainder of the series. I would like to thank you for the help that you have given at all the events, including the social ones, that we have organised as a club this year. You are what makes this club so great to be a part of.
Our membership is at it’s highest level yet and we are attracting members of a wide range of running abilities which says a lot about how well we are regarded by others and how friendly a club we are. Our new website will certainly enhance our club’s image and help attract even more people to join us. A special thanks to Trevor and all those of you who have helped for working so hard on this.
A special thank you also goes to Lucy for organising such a great Xmas Disco and trip to the Panto, along with all the hard work she has put in throughout the year into arranging all of our social events.
The next time we will be meeting at the club will be on Thursday the 2nd of January. Do have a Very Merry Christmas and try and make it to the Boxing Day run at Hazlemere. Details are on facebook and the “News” page of the club website. If you are not able to be there then I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a healthy, happy and successful New Year.
Rod and Margo invite you all to come along for their Traditional Boxing Day run and afterwards for refreshments at their home. We will be meeting at the car park near Hazlemere Crossroads, off Beaumont Way( Postcode HP15 7LQ) and leaving for a very social, led and swept, run of around 1 1/4 hours at 10:30am. There will also be a 3 or 4 mile walk for anyone who doesn’t want to run (or is too badly hungover). Please wear something festive and bring a change of clothes/shoes to wear after.
I look forward to seeing you there.
We will be meeting at the club at 9:00am. to car share to the venue postcode RG45 7EG.
Hi Handy Cross Runners,
The TVXC website www.tvxc.org.uk has been updated with directions and a URL for a map for this Sunday’s event. Please share the information below with your club runners and advise them to car share if possible.
Reading Roadrunners XC Race Directions:
This is a new location for 2013/14 season. We are not running our recent Bearwood College venue. The new venue is Crowthorne Woods. Access is via the B3348 at Crowthorne. From the B3348 take Upper Broadmoor Road. At the end of this road there is a roundabout. At the roundabout turn left into Kentigern Drive. The car park is on the left after a short distance.
We are using the Broadmoor Hospital Car Park, as used for the Woodlands 5 Series and the Bounders Relay. Please share transport if possible.
Registration, enquiries, loos and refreshments will all be located in the car park area. The start and finish is in the woods adjacent to the car park and access is via a footpath at the western end of the car park. There is a strip of land beside the track at the start and finish which can be used for club banners / changing. Valuables should be locked in your car. Finishing discs will be handed out to the finishers. Please return these to your club reps.
The course is in the same Woodland used for the Woodlands 5 Series and the Bounders Relay. It is on forest tracks. Some of the tracks are hard packed stones and spikes may not be a good idea. The course will be well marked and marshalled. The woodland is generally open and there will also be walkers, dog walkers and cyclists about. Please treat other users with respect.
Reading Road Runners
It is our Xmas Disco at the Club on Friday from 8 til late (well about 12:30, or 1:00am. if we can persuade the disco to keep playing and the bar to keep open). All members along with their family and friends are invited. I know that I can depend on all of our long standing member’s to turn up so hope that you newer member’s will come along and have some fun and get to know everbody. There is no admission charge but we do ask people to bring along a contribution of food (nibbles/snacks) for the buffet. We are also holding a raffle so any donations that you have for prizes will be especially welcome. This is an ideal opportunity to get rid of all those unused/unwanted gifts from last year to make room for this year’s stock. Please give them to me or Lucy.
To make sure that the music is to your and hopefully the majority’s taste, it will be great if we could give the DJ an idea of what we like instead of him having to guess. I will expect you all to get on the dance floor very early on as I don’t want to be dancing alone and need the exercise to get some weight off before eating all that food you are going to bring. Please let Lucy have your musical requests before Friday so that she can tell the DJ in advance and he can dig all that old stuff out of his attic.
Here’s looking forward to a fun filled Friday night but not looking forward to the hangover next day!
Handy Cross Runners and friends will be meeting at the Spade Oak public car park, Coldmoorholme Lane, Bourne End SL8 5PS ( = nearest postcode, OS Map 175 Ref: 884 875), at 10 a.m. on Sunday for our annual Christmas river run organised by Tel and his Belles and afterwards for refreshments in the Spade Oak pub. There will be a run of 5 miles and one of 8/9 and possibly a walk. Our newer runners can be reassured that it will be a very easy and sociable run with Fred in attendance to look after you and make sure that nobody gets left behind. Our recently graduated Wednesday Group runners will be especially welcomed. The hard-core Sunday regulars will be meeting at 8.30 for an additional run before joining the main event.
Please wear something Christmassy and come along prepared for a good time!
